Bournemouth set to miss out on naming Scott Parker new boss after failing to replace Fulham in Premier League

BOURNEMOUTH’S failure to bounce back into the Premier League may end up costing them the chance to nab Scott Parker as manager.

Fulham’s boss is top of their wanted list with the future of Jonathan Woodgate looking increasingly uncertain.

Parker was tempted by the idea of jumping ship when it looked like Fulham would pass Bournemouth on their way down last season.

But Bournemouth’s defeat in the Championship Play-Off semi-finals has thrown a huge spanner in the works.

The two teams will now be rivals in the same division next season with both clubs among the leading contenders for promotion to the top flight.

There has been growing speculation that Parker is ready for a new challenge despite having two years left on his contract at Craven Cottage.

Parker is highly rated and has been linked with the managerial vacancy at Tottenham where he played and coached before moving across to South West London.

But the manner in which Fulham eventually slipped out of the Premier League having given themselves a fighting chance of staying up has raised questions at the club.

After claiming a rare Merseyside double with victories at Everton and Liverpool in March, Fulham did not win another game and finished nine points adrift of safety.

Sources on the South Coast claim Parker still feels an ‘emotional’ tie to Bournemouth given their interest in him but that the situation is now up in the air after missing out on promotion.

Woodgate’s contract as caretaker boss expired at the end of the season and is facing an uphill battle to be appointed permanently.
