ANOTHER staycation boom is driving up the prices of UK holidays, with a trip to Cornwall costing triple the amount than a trip to Spain.
The government recently warned Brits to opt for a UK holiday this summer instead of one abroad, following the removal of Portugal from the green list.

Environment Secretary George Eustice said Brits should stay at home this summer as the spread of the Indian variant has wrecked plans to reopen travel.
However, families face being priced out of a trip across the UK as prices soar due to demand and many popular destinations sell out.
A report by Which? found the cheapest options for a two week holiday in August were in Yorkshire, costing £1,738, while we managed to find the cheapest Cornwall break for £1,531.
For the same 14-day period, a two bedroom cottage in Spain cost just £534.
Even travel is much more expensive in the UK – return train fares from London to Cornwall are as much as £165 in August, compared to return flights to Spain from £62.
Toad Hall Cottages, who own 900 UK properties, said they had just one left for the last week of July, with just two per cent available for even September.

A spokesperson told the Telegraph: “People need to act fast. Pretty much the only way to find a cottage for this summer is to keep an eye on our, and our competitors’, social media for new properties coming on.”
We’ve still managed to find a few holiday deals to Cornwall for the summer, including holiday parks and cottage breaks such as:
- Three nights at Haven holiday parks from £559 – find here
- Three night breaks with Sykes Cottages from £478 – find here
- Seven night breaks with VRBO from £670 – find here

Frantic families were forced to rush back from Portugal this week after the country was added to the amber list.
As one of the few countries on the green list which is open to Brits for a holiday, it now joins Spain, Greece and France on the list.
However, all of the countries are still welcoming Brits – Spain has even lifted all entry restrictions, while UK arrivals only need an antigen test for France if they are fully vaccinated.
