Chelsea may have missed out on a first trophy under Frank Lampard in Saturday’s FA Cup final, but at least they can look forward to a Champions League place next season.
And that could prove crucial as boss Lampard looks to attract the rest of his transfer targets to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Chelsea have already signed striker Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and winger Hakim Ziyech from Ajax for a combined £89million.
Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz appears to be next on the shopping list, while the West Londoners are also in the market for a goalkeeper and a left-back.
Here are the latest transfer rumours around Chelsea.
Havertz deal awaits ‘decisive call’
Bayer Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz has let on that he knows where Havertz is heading this summer – and says the deal is just waiting for “the decisive call”.
Attacking midfielder is widely tipped to join Chelsea this summer, although other clubs such as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have been sniffing around.
But Bosz was coy when asked where his star player’s destiny lay.
“I won’t tell, it’s his business,” Bosz told German news agency DPA.
He added: “I talk to Kai a lot and try to sense what all this does to him – the daily transfer rumours, for example – and I notice again and again that Kai handles it very well.”
Asked if he knew when the expected move would happen, Bosz said: “It’s impossible to say. Maybe the decisive call will come today, maybe next week, maybe not at all.”
Chelsea ‘increasingly confident’ deal will be agreed
While Bosz was coy on Havertz’s next move, elsewhere it was reported that a deal between Chelsea and Leverkusen has almost been agreed.
According to TeamTalk, negotiations are at an advanced stage and Chelsea are “increasingly confident” of landing the 21-year-old.
The publication reports that under the structured deal, Chelsea will make a substantial up front payment, with further payments spread over the course of the playmaker’s five-year contract.
However, the deal is not expected to be announced until after Leverkusen’s Europa League campaign has been concluded.
The Bundesliga side host Rangers in the last 16 on Thursday holding a 3-1 lead from the first leg back in March.
Pundits gang up on Kepa
One Chelsea player who looks set to be replaced this summer is goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Willy Caballero was preferred to Arrizabalaga for Saturday’s FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal – as he had been for Chelsea’s final Premier League game of the season against Wolves the previous weekend.
And Alan Shearer, Ian Wright and Jamie Carragher all reckon £71million man Arrizabalaga is on his way out.
Asked whether he thought Lampard would sign a new keeper this summer, BBC pundit Shearer said: “Yes for me, definitely.”
Wright agreed, simply saying: “Absolutely.”
Carragher has also said Lampard must axe the Spaniard, saying: “Chelsea won’t go any further unless they change their goalkeeper.”
The Stamford Bridge side have been linked with Manchester United keeper Dean Henderson, who impressed on loan at Manchester United this season.
Jan Oblak is also on Chelsea’s radar, but could cost a whopping £109m to prise away from Atletico Madrid.
