Dancing On Ice's Ben Hanlin opens up about terror over baby daughter's sepsis scare


Dancing On Ice star Ben Hanlin has opened up about his terror while his baby daughter was being treated for sepsis .

The magician, 38, appeared on Loose Women as he spoke about the horrifying moment he discovered that his daughter was ill and admitted that he had “no idea” about how fatal the infection could be.

Ben’s baby daughter Delilah spent six days in Birmingham’s Heartlands hospital two weeks ago.

After skating on the ITV show, he received a call from his wife telling him that she had called an ambulance for their daughter.

Ben cancelled his scheduled appearance at a gig and rushed home.

The magician said: “There was an ambulance on my drive.”

He added: “My worst nightmare. Yep. They came in and took one look at her – her mottled skin – I said ‘Delilah’s seven months’ – she was 103 degrees.

He was terrified after discovering how deadly the infection could be

“We took all her clothes off.

“She was struggling to breathe, her hands and feet were going blue.”

Ben continued: “The paramedics said ‘we’ve got to go’, they didn’t mess about. Briony got in the ambulance, I followed behind and they took her to Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, who were amazing.”

Questioned about whether he knew how deadly sepsis could be, he said: “I knew zero. It was not on my radar. The worst thing you can do in hospital is start Googling.”

He added: “They gave her amazing attention, first they put loads of glucose in her, and then antibiotics.

“Within two hours they got her stable. From that, they monitored her.”
