The co-ordinator for Extinction Rebellion has blamed This Morning for today’s tube chaos.
Sarah Lunnon claimed drastic action was needed after the climate change organisation was “bumped” from appearing on This Morning three times.
There were shocking scenes this morning when two activists climbed on top of a Jubilee Line train at Canning Town – leading angry commuters to drag one of them off before a scuffle.
There was a tense atmosphere in the studio as Sarah clashed with presenter Phillip Schofield over Extinction Rebellion’s methods.
Sarah accused Phillip of repeatedly speaking over and interrupting her, while Phillip snapped back with a sassy remark.
Sarah asked: “Would you like me to answer your question or just talk over me?”
Fuming hero Phil replied: “Don’t get like that. You’ve made your point on that. Unless you want to make it hundreds of times.”
Holly Willoughby then asked if the decision by Extinction Rebellion to not conduct further tube disruption was an “admission you got it wrong this time”.
Sarah then turned the tables on This Morning and insisted they needed stronger action after being “bumped” from the This Morning line-up.
She replied: “I don’t think we’ve got it wrong necessarily because today I’m sitting in this studio and we’ve been bumped three times from This Morning in the last 10 days.
“It’s taken us to be this disruptive to get on your programme to talk about the emergency that we’re facing.”
Stunned Phil said: “Is that why you did it?”
Admitting he didn’t want to interrupt her, Phil added: “So that man glued his hand to one electric train for his grandchildren and so you could get on This Morning?”
Sarah claimed they were bumped for not being “newsworthy enough” so their methods had worked.
Phillip then suggested that someone was going to get hurt during the protests.
Defending their actions, Sarah said: “Your analysis may be right. Someone may get hurt.
“The activist today realised the risk they were in. They felt they needed to do that. We are watching life on earth dying.”
This Morning viewers raced to Twitter to defend Phillip against Sarah.
One viewer said: “How can this women sit there and talk like that to Phillip Schofield?????? Behaving like that isn’t going to get her anywhere…. hahahah what a delusional woman”
“Phillip Schofield is doing bits against this #ExtintionRebellion protester – she hasn’t got a clue,” added another.
A third said: “Phillip is making a mug of this extinction rebellion on this morning, thoroughly enjoying it”
