Hollyoaks star teases 'devastating consequences' as radicalisation plot takes huge turn

Hollyoaks actor Kieron Richardson has teased fresh drama for his character Ste Hay, as he continues to become embroiled in the radicalisation storyline.

Stuart and Johnny have been manipulating him for months, trying to get him to adopt their racist views while isolating him from his loved ones.

Things looked as though they could be turning around for Ste, until a recent episode saw him brutally beat up newcomer Jed – with the character trying to convince him to leave the group behind and grass them up to the police.

Amid fears Ste could be too deep into the group and their plans, actor Kieron has now teased that while his character might finally have his eyes opened, it could lead to devastating scenes.

Speaking exclusively to Mirror online , Kieron revealed there were huge scenes to come in September that would change everything, and see the controversial plot head in a new direction.

He told us: “In September there’s gonna be a massive peak to the story where Ste’s eyes will eventually be opened.

“There’s a huge event that happens that could have devastating consequences.

Ste has been manipulated by Stuart and Johnny for months

“When they talk about the direct action that the group want to do… it’s possibly the most disastrous thing they could plan to do, and Ste is like, ‘Woah, woah, woah, this is too much’.”

Kieron went on to reveal he hoped the village could forgive him, while it’s likely he may have to disappear to get his head around being groomed by the far-right group.

The plot will then take a new turn in the fallout of the big September episodes, seeing how Ste copes once his eyes are opened to the racist thoughts and actions of the group he believed to be his friends.

Kieron explained: “The fallout is what new direction Ste goes in next. He’s gonna have to go away for a bit and figure out what he’s been doing with his life for the past 18 months or so, and why he was taken in so much, and figure out if he could be a better person.

“Hopefully he can start a fresh and hopefully the village will forgive him and realise he was groomed, and that it’s what Stuart and Johnny have done to him. They got in his head.”

On whether the plot will come to an end soon, he teased: “The initial storyline hasn’t got too far to go and I hope the ending is what everyone wants to happen,” before he went on to add about the soap in general: “Expect a few more shocks!”

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6:30pm on Channel 4, with the next episode at 7pm on E4.
