BAKE OFF fans will be thrilled to know that its spin-off show Extra Slice will be returning to our screens alongside the main show.
But is comedian Jo Brand back at the helm of the programme? And which special guests can we expect to see? Here are all the details you need to know…
Is Bake Off: An Extra Slice returning to Channel 4?
It sure is!
Bakers can wipe the sweat from their brow as the fun-packed spin-off of the hit show WILL be returning very soon.
For those who aren’t satisfied by just one serving of Bake Off in a week, you’ll be relieved to learn that Extra Slice is expected to be gracing your screens in its regular Friday slot – ah what a delicious start to the weekend!
So far we’ve been left in the dark with the logistics and start date of the main Bake Off show as well as Extra Slice.
Producers have been keeping tight-lipped about when we’ll get a taste of this year’s offerings – but no doubt once the main show’s start date is released, we can assume Extra Slice will be aired on the following Friday as with previous years.
Is Jo Brand hosting?
Yes, Jo is hosting.
Neither the comedian nor Channel 4 bosses have stated otherwise – and considering we are just a matter of weeks from the show airing, it seems a bit late in the game to be doing so.
Plus, Jo has been very vocal about how much she loves hosting Extra Slice.
In a November 2018 interview with Scotsman, Jo waxed lyrical about the show, saying: “I love its happy audience, funny panel and – unintentionally terrifying sometimes – audience baking.
“And I liked the format. It’s a bit like Have I Got News For You, presenting, with a panel of funny people and an audience.”
And in case we needed any more reassurance, she is used on the SRO Audiences website in the image for the programme – so that seems pretty conclusive to me.
Who are the special guests?
Well, considering the show isn’t even back on our screens it’s unlikely we’ll learn which celebrity guests will be featuring until it returns.
Though looking back on previous series, we’re likely to be in for a treat.
Some special guests on the show have been Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Tom Allen, Michael Roux Jr and Nadiya Hussain to name a few!
What is The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice?
The programme really does what it says on the baking tin – it’s an extra slice of all the tastiness of the main show.
Like the main show, An Extra Slice is also shown on Channel 4.
Presenter Jo Brand is expected to once again be at the helm of the spin-off and as usual will no doubt be joined by a host of celebrities.
The show looks back at the past week’s bakes – and decides whether the right person left the tents.
It also includes unseen footage that wasn’t aired in the week’s episode.
Audience members can also get their own baking rated on the show by a celebrity guest.
Jo shares pictures sent in from cooks around the country – ranging from culinary delights to baking disasters.
And the evicted baker also guest stars and gets a chance to re-do one of their failed bakes.
The winner is also set to make an appearance following the final, as previous champions like Edd Kimber has done in the past.
When is Bake Off: An Extra Slice on?
The spin off show airs on Fridays – just a few days after the main show.
If this year follows the same format as last year, then Bake Off: An Extra Slice will air on Channel 4 at 8pm.
If you miss it, you’ll be able to catch it again on the ITV Hub.
The Great British Bake Off is likely to return to Channel 4 on Tuesdays at 8pm, as was the case last year.
More on The Great British Bake Off
When does The Great British Bake Off 2019 start and how long will it run for?
I’m afraid we don’t have an official start day for The Great British Bake Off 2019, but we do know it will be August.
Last year it started on August 28, and with this in mind, it could kick off at 8pm on Channel 4 on August 27, 2019 – as it always starts on a Tuesday.
The show will run for 10 consecutive weeks.
The final is likely to be on November 5, 2019 – but this is also still to be confirmed.
