John McAfee pledged to ‘eat his own manhood’ if Bitcoin didn’t hit $500k by end of 2020… which it didn’t

CYBER security pioneer John McAfee pledged to “eat his own d***” on national television if Bitcoin failed to reach $500,000 by 2020.

The entrepreneur, who was found dead in a Barcelona prison cell yesterday, made the bold statement in 2017 – a prediction he got wrong.

He was found dead in a Barcelona prison cell hours after a Spanish court agreed to extradite him to the US to face tax evasion charges.

Catalan police said medics tried to resuscitate the 75-year-old but failed.

“Judicial staff have been dispatched to the prison and are investigating the causes of death,” the statement from the Catalan justice department said, adding: “Everything points to death by suicide.”

In November 2017 he wrote: “When I predicted Bitcoin at $500,000 by the end of 2020, it used a model that predicted $5,000 at the end of 2017.

“BTC has accelerated much faster than my model assumptions. I now predict Bircoin [sic] at $1 million by the end of 2020. I will still eat my d*** if wrong.”

Thay year he was asked by a twitter user: “So 1btc 500k $ within 3 years?” and he replied: “If not, I will eat my d*** on national television.”

But then seeming to go back on his word in 2020 he then wrote: “Eat my d*** in 12 months? A ruse to onboard new users. It worked.

“Bitcoin was first. It’s an ancient technology. All know it.

“Newer blockchains have privacy, smart contracts, distributed apps and more. Bitcoin is our future?

“Was the Model T the future of the automobile?”

When he was confronted by a supporter who felt the cryptocurrency enthusiast was going back on his promise, McAfee argued that anyone who believed he would eat his own penis was an “idiot”.

He then hit back at followers who appeared to question the strength of his promise, calling them idiots[/caption]

“Wake the f*** up. What idiot thinks anyone is going to eat their own d*** ever? Especially in TV!!” McAfee said. “Are you that idiot? God .. I hope none of my followers are that stupid.”

Speaking previously with The Daily Dot, McAfee said it “broke my f***** heart” that people in the cryptocurrency community believed his alleged prank.

“What is wrong with you people!?” he said. “I can’t account for people’s stupidity and those who believed it, I’m sorry, I’m not responsible.

“It’s your mother for letting you live in her basement your whole f***** life. You’re not seeing the world. Blame your mother, not me.”

This comes as it’s believed that McAfee was was reportedly holed up in a mysterious “ghost hotel” at a Spanish resort where he reportedly turned into a secret cryptocurrency farm.

Internet sleuhs examined his Instagram and tweets and worked out his location.

Thanks to a group of computer nerds turned detective, it appeared turned out that McAfee had shacked up in a closed-down Hotel Daurada Park which is an old rickety roadside building in Cambrils, in the north eastern Spanish region of Catalonia.

Spanish newspaper El Confidencial reported at the time of McAfee’s arrest in October that he had been living there since at least March 2020.

Other reports suggest the British born antivirus pioneer was operating from what has been described as a “ghost hotel” for two years.

One guest who stayed at the two storey, 110 room hotel before it closed, described it as the Overlook Hotel from Stephen King’s The Shining.

In a TripAdviser post, they said: “It must have had a moment of splendour and grace back in the 80’s.

“In 2016 trust me it was spooky. you will feel that just like Jack Torrance, it is easy to lose your mind.”

According to local media, McAfee would spend his time in the basement.

Meanwhile, McAfee had duped people into believing he was based somewhere in Belarus.

He had claimed the US government was after his “hidden cryptocurrency” and complained his pals had evaporated.

McAfee was arrested last October at Barcelona airport and had been in jail since then awaiting the outcome of extradition proceedings.

McAfee and his bodyguard Jimmy Gale Watson Jr were charged for a scheme to exploit McAfee’s large Twitter following by publicly touting cryptocurrency offerings and digital tokens that they later sold once prices rose on the promotions, according to the US Department of Justice and the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

But a week before his death, McAfee tweeted that he no digital currency assets squirrelled away.

He said: “The US believes I have hidden crypto.

“I wish I did but it has dissolved through the many hands of Team McAfee (your belief is not required), and my remaining assets are all seized.

“My friends evaporated through fear of association. I have nothing. Yet, I regret nothing.”
