Khabib Nurmagomedov will look to put an end to UFC comeback speculation in talks with Dana White as the lightweight king opined that Dustin Poirier or Conor McGregor will become the new 155-pound champion in the future.
The Dagestani, 32, announced his shock retirement from the sport after taking his unblemished record to 29 wins, zero losses following his UFC 254 win over Justin Gaethje in October.
UFC supremo Dana White believes that the undefeated star will return to take his record to a perfect 30 amid talk of a mega-fight with UFC legend Georges St-Pierre.

Despite his retirement, the UFC have not stripped the mauler of his belt, indicating that they wish for him to defend as champion in the future.
In a press conference on Monday, Khabib recognised that White is eager for his return to the octagon, but maintained that he will not budge from his stance that he will not compete again.
‘We are in touch with Dana White, we have not discussed why the belt is not vacant,’ Nurmagomedov said via TASS. ‘Apparently they want me to come back. I have been in league for nine years, there is already a history, a fan base, their desires are clear.

‘I will not hide the fact that they offer to return, offer conditions, [and] fighters. We will meet with Dana soon, we will discuss. I would not like there to be a possibility that I will return.’
Khabib’s retirement opens the door for a whole host of lightweights vying to reach the summit of the 155-pound division. McGregor returns to the UFC to take on Poirier at UFC 257 will kickstart the scramble to the top.
And Khabib says that, although the January 23 match up on Fight Island is not for the belt, the winner of that bout will go on to win the coveted title.
‘Top three [lightweight] fighters right now? Poirier, McGregor and [Islam] Makhachev. He is not in the top-five yet, but those are the best fighters,’ he said via RT Sport. ‘My belt will be taken by the winner of Dustin and Conor.’
