Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool were dealt an early blow in the summer transfer window when Timo Werner signed for Chelsea last week, with the Anfield club pulling the plug on their interest in the RB Leipzig striker.
The suggestion is Liverpool may feel the knock-on effects of the coronavirus shutdown more than most, but that hasn’t stopped them being the subject of much transfer speculation.
Indeed, the Reds have been linked with a number of different potential targets of late, with a new centre-back widely believed to be among Klopp’s priorities for the summer.
Here are the biggest and best Liverpool transfer stories for today.
Liverpool still keen on Jadon Sancho despite Timo Werner pull-back
Liverpool reportedly could still make a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, despite pulling back on their interest in Werner.
The Reds’ reluctance to stump up the £53 million release clause for Werner led many to suggest it would be a quiet transfer window at Anfield this summer, with the Premier League champions-elect feeling the pinch of the coronavirus pandemic.
But the Daily Mail claims Liverpool could still move for Sancho despite Dortmund slapping a £100 million price tag on the England international who is attracting the attention of Manchester United.
It is claimed Liverpool has some doubts over Sancho’s disciplinary issues and refuse to break the bank for the 20-year-old.
Transfer battle for Werder Bremen forward could lead to legal dispute
Liverpool and Wolves could end up in a legal tussle as they reportedly fight for the signing of Werder Bremen forward Milot Rashica.
The Kosovan international has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs including Aston Villa and Southampton, with RB Leipzig also believed to be interested in the 23-year-old who has fallen down the pecking order at Werder Bremen this season.
Kicker (via Birmingham Live) reports that Werder Bremen’s relegation from the Bundesliga would trigger a release clause in Rashica’s contract worth only €15 million.
But with the Bundesliga season extended beyond its usual end date, that release clause may have expired before the transfer window has even opened. This could lead to a legal tussle, with Liverpool and Wolves leading the pursuit.
Liverpool interested in 21-year-old Sao Paulo midfielder
Sao Paulo midfielder Igor Gomes reportedly could be on his way to Liverpool this summer with the 21-year-old reportedly attracting the interest of the Anfield club.
Esporte Interativo (via Sport Witness) claim the Reds have been in touch with the Brazilian club over the transfer of Gomes, with more information requested on the young midfielder ahead of a potential move.
Gomes is already believed to be attracting the attention of Ajax who are expected to make a bid to
Sao Paulo soon having already signed Antony from the same club last year for €16 million.
Sao Paulo want an even bigger fee for Gomes, meaning Liverpool could have to spend big to lure the midfielder to Anfield. His possession of an EU passport would make a transfer easier, though.
