Man Utd boss Solskjaer ‘says he would RESIGN’ if shocking form continues

MANCHESTER UNITED manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would reportedly RESIGN if results don’t improve.

That’s according to The Metro, who claim that the Norwegian would step down if it was believed to be in the best interests if the club.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he would quit if results don’t improve

United are languishing down in 12th spot in the Premier League, only two points clear of the relegation places.

They have won just two games in eight, and face the daunting task of entertaining table-toppers and free-scoring Liverpool this weekend.

And according to The Metro, Solskjaer has “too much respect” for supporters to put his own personal pride at managing the club he played for ahead of what is best for the future.

But in the short term, the 46-year-old is refusing to give up on his dream job.

He said: “I’ve never felt it’s too big for me and I’m confident in what we’re trying to do and with my staff.

“The mood here is always good, we’ve come a long way on what you call the culture, environment we’re working in, it’s positive.”

Solskjaer has received the full backing of executive vice chairman Ed Woodward in the run up to Sunday’s visit of table toppers Liverpool.

That is despite just five wins from their last 23 games under him and the worst start to a season in 30 years.

They could even be in the bottom three by Sunday night.

He said: “I speak to Ed regularly and we have a plan.

“We knew we had to make some decisions in the short-term that would harm us but in the long term would benefit us.

“There’s planning for the next transfer window and summer transfer window

“That’s part of the plan but results are always the main thing and we can move forward quicker with results and performances.”

A result against Liverpool would certainly serve to lift Old Trafford.

Solskjaer is pinning his hopes on one of football’s great clashes raising the players to a level they have not reached since the opening day of the season.

The lead up to the Liverpool game has not been smooth for Solskjaer.

He has admitted Marcus Rashford needs a rest already, while captain David De Gea is facing a fight to be fit for the Liverpool game after getting injured on international duty.

Paul Pogba is also out with injury – though did have time to meet up with Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane out in Dubai.

The Frenchman has been constantly linked with a move to the Bernabeu and has spoken of his admiration for Zidane.
