While a couple of big transfer sagas will rumble on until they’re resolved one way or another, Manchester United are being linked with more than just the usual names.
We’ll no doubt hear more about Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish in the coming days and weeks as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2020/21 Premier League and Champions League campaigns.
However, there’s more going on when it comes to the Red Devils’ recruitment, and we’ve got the latest on the potential comings and goings as United aim to build a squad capable of challenging on multiple fronts.
United keeping tabs on Lille defender
With Lille having missed out on a spot in next season’s Champions League, a number of the club’s talents are being linked with moves away from Ligue 1.
One such player is Gabriel Magalhaes, a 22-year-old centre-back who has impressed alongside Jose Fonte in Lille’s defence.
Sky Sports reports the youngster, who is likely to be available for around £20m, is being monitored by the powers-that-be at Old Trafford as United aim to add young blood to their backline.
Gabriel is also being looked at by Everton and Napoli, while Paris Saint-Germain could be a potential destination if the Sao Paulo-born defender opts to stay in France.
Since joining from Brazilian side Avai in 2017, Gabriel has played 40 games in Ligue 1 – 24 of them last season.
Manchester rivals battling it out for French youngster
Manchester United are looking to beat rivals City to the signing of France Under-21 defender Rayan Ait-Nouri, according to reports on the continent.
The left-back has come through the academy ranks at Ligue 1 side Angers and made the first of his 20 league appearances for the club in 2018.
According to FootMercato, via the Express, the 19-year-old has travelled to Manchester to visit the training facilities of United and City, with the former having made contact with Ait-Nouri’s agent Jorge Mendes.
The teenager has played three times for the France Under-21 side, featuring alongside RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano and Borussia Dortmund’s Dan-Axel Zagadou in a European Championship qualifier against Switzerland last November.
Jimenez reports ‘wide of the mark’
Manchester United have been linked with Wolves striker Raul Jimenez on several occasions over the last few months, but recent reports in the Portuguese media are believed to be inaccurate.
Wolves have themselves been linked with a swoop for Braga striker Paulinho, prompting suggestions from Portuguese broadcaster RTP that this meant Jimenez was on his way to Old Trafford.
However, according to the Manchester Evening News, United are no longer in the market for a new number nine.
Jimenez, who joined Wolves permanently last summer after a successful loan spell, has scored 26 goals in all competitions this season for Nuno’s side.
But while United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to have been interested in moving for the Mexican in January before clinching a loan move for Odion Ighalo, the Red Devils are more desperate to recruit a wide player than a central striker this summer.
