The Duchess of Sussex launched an astonishing attack on her estranged father as she finally addressed his infamous run-in with the paparazzi ahead of her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018. Good Morning Britain co-host Piers Morgan confirmed Mr Markle’s appearance on the show on Tuesday in a post on Twitter.
He wrote: “Meghan Markle trashed her dad on US TV today.
“On tomorrow’s Good Morning Britain, Thomas Markle will give his first exclusive interview in response.”
Meghan’s relationship with her father was thrust into the media spotlight a week before she was due to tie the knot to Harry in May, 2018.
The former Hollywood lighting-director was embroiled in controversy after allegedly staging paparazzi photographs of himself.
Several images emerged of Mr Markle being measured for a suit, looking at screen pictures of his daughter and Harry while in an internet cafe, and reading a picture book about Britain.
Meghan said she did all she could to protect her parents from a so-called “media frenzy”.
Meghan was asked by Oprah if it felt like a “betrayal” when she found out her dad was seen to be working with the Press.
The Duchess said: “I’m trying to decide if I’m comfortable even talking about that.
“It was… if we were going to use the word betrayal.”
She added: “Because when I asked him, when we were told by the comms team, this is a story that was going to be coming out.
“Which by the way, the tabloids had apparently known for a month or so and decided to hold until the Sunday before our wedding because they wanted to create drama, which is also a really key point in all this.
“We called my dad and I asked him and he said ‘no, absolutely not’.
She said: “Everyone has accountability. Look, they hunted my mum down.
“You’ve never heard her say a word.
“She’s remained in silent dignity for four years watching me go through this.”
Oprah With Meghan and Harry is on ITV at 9pm on Monday March 8. You can watch the full interview afterwards on the ITV hub.
