Mason Greenwood forces Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to change Man Utd transfer plans

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted Manchester United’s transfer plans have changed as a result of Mason Greenwood’s form.

The young Red Devils striker has been sensational since the Premier League restart, and has netted four in his side’s past three fixtures.

Manchester United have been linked with a whole host of big-money attackers ahead of the summer transfer window, with Jadon Sancho at the top of the wishlist.

But Solskjaer has suggested the Red Devils won’t necessarily open the chequebook to make a new signing – especially if the incoming player has the potential to disrupt the development of the club’s new golden boy.

Solskjaer said: “I don’t think you can expect six players coming in – I know there won’t be six players coming in. We can’t just take players in because we need a body.

“Mason Greenwood is a player for me – he is 17 and I want to give him the chance to become a top player at this club.

“It’s the same with Marcus Rashford at 21 and Diogo Dalot at 20. These players are going to get a chance and that is going to affect players who are at the other end of their careers.

“It means you don’t want too many changes with signings and you have to say to players at the other end of their careers: ‘I don’t think you’re for me’.”

Greenwood penned a new deal with Manchester United in 2019 keeping him at the club for the next four years.

Juventus were keen on landing the teenager before he signed his contract, and were willing to offer him a ‘life-changing amount of money’, according to The Athletic.

But the forward pledged his future to Manchester United, and looks set to have a great career with the Old Trafford club.
