Meghan and Harry urge fans to support women on public holiday – 'real acts of compassion'

An update on the couple’s non-profit website, the Archewell Foundation, encourages others to unleash “real acts of compassion”. “We know the world is asking more and more of women every day,” the appeal says “as wage earners, leaders, educators, carers, and more.

“In recognition of International Women’s Day, let’s unleash a groundswell of real acts of compassion for the women in your life and in your community.”

Suggestions made by the Royal couple include supporting “organizations that do vital work for gender equity”, ordering from “a woman-led restaurant”, and making “a meal for women who could use a helping hand.”

The recommendations given are both long and short-term and can be as simple as checking in on a friend.

The website headline states “Women Deserve Recognition – and also Support”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be following their own advice this month and will be taking part in a variety of these actions.

“Everyone has a role to play” the website says. “From work to family care, many of us are juggling a lot at the moment.

“Asking something as simple as ‘Are you OK?’ can go a long way.”

Meghan has a long history of supporting International Women’s Day. In 2018, the couple attended an event supporting girls and young women in STEM based job sectors.
