My noisy neighbour has driven me to drink – is my only option to move out?

DEAR DEIDRE: MY noisy neighbour is making me sick with stress.

I live in a second-floor flat and someone recently moved into the flat below.

He moves furniture around, plays music and hammers nails into his walls between 2am and 5am almost every night. At least, that’s what it sounds like.

I have stomach aches and headaches, which I’m sure are due to anxiety

I’m a 48-year-old man, living alone. I can’t sleep and I’ve been off work with stress.

The only way I can relax is by drinking a bottle of wine every night.

I have stomach aches and headaches which I’m sure are down to anxiety.

The housing officer was not supportive when I spoke to him. He seems to be on my neighbour’s side.

I’ve banged on the floor but the noise doesn’t stop. Is moving out my only option?

DEIDRE SAYS: Talk to your neighbour rather than just reporting him. He might not realise how much the noise from his flat is travelling up into yours.

My support pack on Nuisance Neighbours should be helpful.

Speak to your doctor about the stress and be honest with them about your drinking. Call Drinkline on 0300 123 1110.
