The uproar surrounding Hunter was ignited by a report in the Daily Mail after the outlet claimed to have obtained messages between him and his $845 per-hour lawyer, George Mesires.

The report claimed the text messages had been lifted from a laptop belonging to Hunter.

In one alleged exchange dated January 2019, Hunter appears to write to Mesires: “I only love you because you’re black … true dat n***a.”

An exchange from a month earlier in December 2018 purports to show Hunter writing: “how much money do I owe you. Becaause [sic] n***a you better not be charging me Hennessy rates.”

Mesires responded: “That made me snarf my coffee.”

“That’s what im saying ni…” Hunter added, cutting off the racial slur before texting an image to his lawyer.

“Why are you so tan?” Mesires said in response to the image, the Mail reported.

“I’m sorry for sexting you accidentally that was meant for another friend named Georgia,” he continued.

Later on in the conversation, the two begin to discuss unconditional love and where it can be found.

“God loves you unconditionally. Beau loves you unconditionally,” Mesires writes, referring to Hunter’s brother who passed away from cancer in 2015.

“Children are too young to understand what it means. But you will show them,” the lawyer continues.

Hunter then drops the N-word yet again in his reply.

“OMG n***a did you just [sic] a fictional character from the imagination of the collective frightened and my dead brothers [sic] unconditional love is what I should rely on and my kids aren’t children George,” he wrote.

The text conversation then shows Hunter go on to make several jokes about his penis.

The Daily Mail also reported that on Hunter’s laptop, he had a meme of his father and Barack Obama saved that also used the racial slur.

The meme shows a picture of Biden and Obama embracing with the caption, “Obama: Gonna miss you man. Joe: Can I say it? Just this once? Obama: *sigh* go ahead. Joe: You my n***a, Barack.”

The meme was saved in June of 2017, according to the outlet.
