Royal Family: ‘The fairytale has been shattered’ says American political commentator

Speaking on BBC Newsnight on March 8, US TV personality, Professor Wendy Osefo, said that the fairytale story presented by the monarchy had been shattered. Professor Osefo, said: “I think for Americans, when we think of the monarchy now, we think of it as an institution that is flawed.

“When we see this monarchy, we see it as an institution that we revere and now we find out that you guys have the same issues of racism and systemic racism that we do in the United States.

“It almost seems like a fairytale has been shattered for many of us.”

The news comes in the wake of the Oprah Winfrey interview in which Harry and Meghan opened up about their reasons for stepping back as senior royals.

During the interview with Winfrey, Prince Harry made reference to feeling “trapped” by the constraints of the royal family.

Professor Osefo added: “There was a comment about Kate Middleton being welcomed into the Monarchy and other people, Fergie, were welcomed into the monarchy.

“The truth of the matter is that when it comes to Meghan Markle, she was not given the same chance.”

Harry and Meghan also claimed racism had been a reason for their decision to step back as senior members of the Royal Family last year.

When Archie was born, a BBC radio presenter posted a series of racist posts on Twitter about Meghan and Harry’s newborn baby.
