Stimulus check update: Here’s why your stimulus payment is delayed and what you can do to claim your cash

AS the IRS continues to send out $1,400 checks as part of Biden’s third stimulus bill, some Americans still haven’t received the amount they are due.

The IRS sent out approximately 2.3million stimulus checks on Wednesday, with 1.2million payments deposited straight into bank accounts.

If you’re wondering where your stimulus check has gone, the first step is to check the IRS’s “Get My Payment” online tool.

The site tracks where your check is in its journey to your bank account, and how much you will receive.

Thanks to the online tool, you can view a current update on the tax returns, including balances owed as well as a payment history and both scheduled and pending payments.

The IRS states on the site that payments are still in process, and that “If you haven’t received a payment yet, it doesn’t mean you won’t.”

If you’re waiting on your check, it is important to verify that the IRS has your correct information on hand, including your bank account and direct deposit information.

If you are missing cash from the first two stimulus rounds, then you should submit a Recovery Rebate Credit form.

The Recovery Rebate Credit section on the IRS website offers a comprehensive, step-by-step guide on how to submit for the tax credit.

You will be able to claim missing money from the previous $1,200 and $600 stimulus relief programs.

The IRS is sending out the checks in the form of direct deposits, paper checks sent through snail mail, and credit cards.

You should receive a letter of confirmation from the IRS about 15 days after the payment has been deposited.

Make sure to check also if you are in line to benefit from Biden’s child tax credit, which will give eligible families up to $3,600 per child for the 2021 tax year.

Many Americans are also set to receive plus-up payments if their income dropped last year compared to 2019 or if a dependent has been added to their tax return.

CBS reports that 1.1million plus-up payments, worth more than $2.5billion, have been sent out as part of Biden’s American Rescue Plan.

While the IRS continues its stimulus check distribution process, calls are growing for Biden to send out a fourth stimulus payment.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters last week: “The president is certainly open to a range of ideas.”

Those include recent proposals for infrastructure investment and the Americans Families Plan.

Various Democratic lawmakers have submitted formal letters to President Biden to push for a fourth check.
