Bale 'has transfer interest from Man Utd' as Real Madrid confirm bid was made

Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale.

The Welshman recently admitted he is looking for a way out at the Bernabeu, adding that Real are making it “very difficult” for him to leave.

The Red Devils have previously been linked with the 31-year-old, and now Marca claims they have rekindled their interest.

The paper reports that Bale is set for showdown talks with Real boss Zinedine Zidane to discuss his future, but that ultimately the La Liga giants hope United will come up with the cash to put the saga to bed once and for all.

Tottenham are also said to be keen on signing Bale, with Jose Mourinho a big fan of the Wales international. But unlike United, Spurs haven’t got the cash to complete a deal.

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon recently claimed that last summer the club received a £89million bid for Bale from an unnamed Premier League side.

The bid was rejected as Real still believed Bale had a part to play.

But last season proved he has no real place in Zidane’s squad, with the Frenchman actively freezing out the Wales international.

Calderon told talkSPORT: “I know in the last day of the transfer window last year there was an offer from the Premier League.

“They offered €100m [£89m] and Real Madrid turned down that offer because they thought Bale would be a player in their side.

“I’m not allowed to say the name, though I do know the name of the club. I think at the end there was a disagreement as Madrid decided not to sell the player, because they thought he was a player who could be used and be in the starting line-up.”

Bale has been frozen out at Real Madrid

Calderon added: “I think the player neither wants to leave nor to reduce his salary. It is true his salary is very high, but in 2016 the club decided to increase his salary.

“It is difficult for any club to pay that salary, especially knowing the situation of football nowadays.”

Bale appeared to reference the same transfer bid in an interview with Sky Sports, in which he confirmed Real Madrid had prevented him from leaving.

“I tried to leave last year but they [Real Madrid] blocked everything at the last second,” said the former Tottenham man.

Bale has accused Real Madrid of making it “very difficult” for him to leave

“It was a project I was excited for last year but it didn’t materialise. And there have been other instances but the club won’t allow it or something, so it’s up to the club.

“I want to play football. I’m still motivated to play football. I’m 31 but I’m in great shape still and I feel I’ve got a lot to give. We’ll see what happens. It’s in the club’s hands and they make things very difficult to be honest.”

Lionel Messi's £632m release clause 'has expired' in major boost to Man City

Lionel Messi is no longer subject to a £632million Barcelona release clause in a major boost to Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, according to reports from Spain.

City are hoping to sign Messi for free after he previously revealed he had an option in his contract to leave at the end of each season.

Barcelona claim that arrangement expired on June 10 and cannot be revisited until next summer.

Nou Camp chiefs are hoping to agree a £250million players-plus-cash deal with City rather than go to court in an attempt to get the Etihad club to pay the player’s get-out clause in full.

But Spanish radio station Cadena SER, cited by Metro, has reported there is no longer a buy-out clause in Messi’s contract, claiming it expired at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Lionel Messi is not planning to report for coronavirus testing or pre-season training as he tries to force through a move

If true, the news would come as a boost to Messi’s suitors, with Paris-Saint Germain, Juventus and Inter Milan all in the race to sign the Argentine superstar.

It is City who remain in pole position, though, with Messi seemingly intent on a reunion with his former Barcelona mentor Guardiola.

The Blues believe they are on the brink of prising the six-time Ballon d’Or winner away from Barcelona after he made it clear he is not backing down from his bid to quit the Nou Camp.

And City bosses know the arrival of the 33-year-old forward will secure the future of boss Guardiola for another three years.

City would be prepared to sacrifice the likes of John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi, Benjamin Mendy, Joao Cancelo, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Angelino in a bid to land Messi.

New Barca boss Ronald Koeman has told friends in Holland he is already planning for life without the world’s No 1 player.

It is yet to be seen whether he will take any of the players on offer – although Barcelona do want young City defender Eric Garcia following his decision to reject a new contract.

Meanwhile, Messi will not be present for the Barcelona squad’s coronavirus testing on Sunday or the start of pre-season training on Monday as he looks to force through a move.

Groom jokes that 2020 'has not been the best year' – and then lightning strikes at his wedding

A couple from Massachusetts had a jolting wedding on Saturday.

Aaron Sawitsky and Denice McClure were in the middle of their socially distanced outdoor ceremony when lightning struck from an impending thunderstorm. The sudden bolt flashed across the body of water from where they stood and was quickly followed up by a crackling boom just after the groom joked, “Let’s face it, 2020 has not been the best year.”

HEARTSTOPPING VIDEO SHOWS LEBANESE BRIDE POSING FOR SHOOT MOMENTS BEFORE MASSIVE EXPLOSION ROCKED CAPITAL

The astonishing moment was all documented in a video posted to Sawitsky’s Instagram.

“Turn on the sound for this one. Mother nature has one wry sense of humor,” he wrote the following day. “Thankfully no one got electrocuted and we finished our vows before the rain started!”

NEWLY MARRIED COUPLE JOINS PHILADELPHIA PROTESTS IMMEDIATELY AFTER WEDDING

Sawitsky was not immediately available to comment on the moment further, as he and his new wife were away enjoying their honeymoon at the time of publication.

However, Sawitsky did manage to tell independent television station WHDH that he thought “the timing was pretty epic” before he set off on vacation with his sweetheart. “And it so perfectly captures the experience of 2020 so far. So, I think the only thing you can do is look at it and be like, ‘Yup. Yea that’s 2020.’ And kind of laugh,” he added.

Despite the interruption, Sawitsky and McClure were able to complete their ceremony, which had already been postponed by two months due to the state of the coronavirus pandemic.

Thirty-six guests attended their Aug. 22 wedding, and luckily no one got hurt in the process.

The probability of lightning striking at a wedding ‒ and punctuating the groom’s joke ‒ is likely incalculable. However, the probability of getting struck by lightning is around 1 in 280,000, according to current records from the National Lightning Safety Institute. Interestingly enough, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention adds that 32% of lightning injuries occur indoors.

Laura Ingraham wraps up Democratic convention, says party 'has learned nothing since 2016'

The Democratic Party showed it learned nothing from its unexpected loss in 2016 by formally nominating former Vice President Joe Biden this week’s convention, Fox News host Laura Ingraham argued Thursday.

“In what felt like at times a never-ending Zoom call with professional scolds, the 2020 virtual DNC finally, mercifully wrapped,” the “Ingraham Angle” host began. “And after all the Democrats’ gauzy tributes to Joe and their shameless lies about Trump, all we’re left with is the recognition that this is a party that has learned nothing since 2016.

“Now think about it, to answer Trump’s popular appeal, they’ve nominated a guy who first ran for president 33 years ago. A guy who’s been hanging around Washington since the early ’70s; a man who — grandfatherly appeal notwithstanding — epitomizes the word swamp. And then to add insult to injury, they think you’re so stupid that you’re going to vote for him even if you have no idea what he’d actually do to tackle our toughest challenges.”

Ingraham added that while Democrats talked a lot about “dignity,” their policies seemed to be lacking in that area.

JOE BIDEN ACCEPTS DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION, SAYS TRUMP ‘FAILED TO PROTECT AMERICA’

“Americans aren’t stupid. No matter how much Team Biden tries to hide the ball, they know he’ll kill the fracking industry, he’ll destroy what’s left of the steel industry when he lifts Trump’s trade tariffs on China. They know a Biden presidency will export good-paying jobs and import more crime and cheap labor,” she said.

“And when you wrap your mind around that, suddenly Joe and Jill’s 45-year love affair becomes a lot less endearing or less relevant. They threw the word ‘dignity’ around a lot tonight and over the past four nights. But tonight, I’m going to ask you: Where is the dignity in taking an American’s job and shipping it to China? Where’s the dignity in rewarding the lawlessness in sanctuary cities?

“Where is the dignity in seeing Americans left defenseless when police are defunded? And where is the dignity and the empathy in keeping our kids out of the classroom in order to placate the teachers’ unions? Where’s all that compassion and not remaining silent as our cities are leveled by the Democrats’ most violent and cruel supporters?

“Answer: There is zero dignity, there is zero compassion, there is zero empathy in any of that.”

Bruno Fernandes 'has already achieved' what took Paul Scholes years to do

Ex-Manchester United forward Louis Saha has lauded the impact Bruno Fernandes has had on the club and believes he has adapted to Premier League life even quicker than the legendary Paul Scholes.

Fernandes joined the Red Devils from Sporting Lisbon in January and has since scored a remarkable 12 goals and created eight assists in all competitions.

Saha has certainly been impressed by what he has seen, and admitted he struggles to think of another player who has hit the ground running as quickly as the Portuguese midfielder at Old Trafford.

Speaking to the Football Index Podcast, Saha said: “I don’t remember a player ever coming to Manchester United or the Premier League and having the immediate impact that Bruno Fernandes has had.

“He’s demanded a much higher standard of this Manchester United squad and the players around him have risen to the occasion. Fernandes has of course scored a lot of penalties, but he has been a big attacking threat from open play and also drives the high press to regain possession back.

“It took even Paul Scholes a couple of years to gain the respect and ability to impact games like this, but Bruno Fernandes has achieved it immediately.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that he will be able to maintain this form next season and he will only become more effective if he is surrounded by more quality players.”

Saha also thinks Fernandes has brought out the best in Paul Pogba, and is confident the Frenchman will go from strength to strength next season.

Paul Pogba also appears to have enjoyed playing with Fernandes

“I think Paul Pogba has been given a new lease of life now that Manchester United has signed Bruno Fernandes,” he added.

“Pogba is very motivated by Fernandes and having him in the midfield next to him has given him more freedom and far more options on the ball.

“He has also benefitted massively by now being able to share the spotlight with Fernandes both when Manchester United are playing well, but more importantly when they have a bad result too.”

Biden 'has an obligation to stand before the American people and answer the tough questions': Capri Cafaro

sLast week, Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris did not take questions from the press, despite positive coverage of the ticket’s rollout from the mainstream media. The former vice president also failed to appear on any of the five Sunday morning news shows on the eve of the Democratic National Convention.

“I think there are two things at play,” Cafaro said. “One, I think that you’re not seeing Joe Biden personally on the Sunday shows right before the Democratic National Convention [so] as not to step on any kind of momentum or star power trying to be created during those conventions in order to get a convention bump.”

That, Cafaro added, is in keeping with “the larger overarching strategy of Joe Biden being in his basement …  it’s almost like a ‘do no harm’ strategy.”

ABC’S GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS SAYS KAMALA HARRIS IS FROM ‘MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, MODERATE WING’ OF DEMOCRATIC PARTY

“He’s anywhere from four to ten points ahead at this point, if you believe the polls,” she noted before adding that “there is this level of concern” that Biden could “step on himself and ruin the momentum that he may have.”

“He could only do that for so long,” Cafaro said, “because I think that there is this narrative that is catching fire that he’s afraid to go in front of the camera. So, he is going to have to address that too”

She also pointed out that since “this is such a different type of campaign because of the pandemic, there isn’t those big rallies that you would see” or the “campaign trail vibe that you would usually be accustomed to during a presidential election cycle.”

“So he really has to get in front of the cameras in order to connect with the people,” Cafaro said.

She concluded by speculating that perhaps Harris and Biden will appear together in interviews moving forward “to try to play off one another, bring that different kind of youth, enthusiasm and sparkle and that articulate kind of bulldog-ness that we’ve seen Kamala Harris bring to the debate stage … against Joe Biden.”

Liam Hemsworth 'has a low opinion of' Miley Cyrus after their split: report

It seems Liam Hemsworth may not be very happy with ex-wife Miley Cyrus.

The pair met while filming 2010’s “The Last Song” and were an on-again-off-again item until their marriage in December of 2018.

Just a few months later, the couple announced their split and their divorce was finalized early this year.

A source has now told Us Weekly that Cyrus, 27, is no longer in the good graces of the 30-year-old “Hunger Games” star.

“Liam kind of has a low opinion of Miley at this point,” said the source. “He was really hurt by their split.”

The insider revealed that the two “haven’t talked much” since their divorce and that Hemsworth was “hurt” by how quickly his ex moved on.

After the divorce, Cyrus engaged in a brief relationship with Kaitlynn Carter before striking up a romance with singer Cody Simpson, which is rumored to have ended recently.

Post-breakup, Hemsworth leaned on his family for support.

“[He] has had the support of his family to help him move on,” said the source. “Liam has been trying to be as private as possible and respectful about their relationship and breakup, and it’s a shame to him and his family that certain aspects about his and Miley’s relationship have been made public.”

They added: “He’s a very traditional and good guy and was very hurt by the way specific instances played out in front of the world.”

Reps for Hemsworth and Cyrus did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.

Earlier this year, the actor spoke to Men’s Health Australia, opening up ever-so-slightly about the breakup.

“This last six months, honestly, for keeping my head level and just staying balanced, I’d say exercise has been big for me,” he admitted. When asked if he’s in a “rebuilding” phase of his life, Hemsworth said that it was a “good way to put it.”

Former Acting AG Whitaker: Kamala Harris 'has finger in the wind' when it comes to law enforcement

The American people are going to have to consider the Democratic Party’s position on defunding the police after Sen. Kamala Harris was added to the ticket as Joe Biden’s running mate, said former acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker on Thursday.

“It’s very interesting how it appears that Sen. Harris, kind of on the issue of law enforcement, has her finger in the wind,” Whitaker told “Fox & Friends,” referring to some conflicting positions from the former Democratic presidential candidate.

KAMALA HARRIS’ FLIP-FLOPS BACK UNDER A MICROSCOPE AFTER VP SELECTION

Harris, who was officially announced as Biden’s running mate Tuesday, has switched her stances on multiple issues throughout her time in public life, beginning as a local prosecutor in the early 2000s.

Those positions are now back in the spotlight, as the Trump campaign tries to tag her as “phony” and the newly named Democratic ticket prepares to present a united and consistent message going into next week’s national convention.

Harris’ changes of heart cover issues like whether the government should abolish private health insurance, whether recreational marijuana should be legalized and more. Such switches have invited criticism in the past from both the left and the right — with Republicans labeling her as radical and members of the more progressive wing of the Democratic Party accusing her of not being liberal enough.

Whitaker said that Harris wrote a book which “suggested” that more of a police presence keeps people safe and their liberties protected.

“Now in 2020, she’s praising, for example, when Los Angeles reprogrammed or cut the police budget by millions of dollars. I think this is one of the things that the American people are going to have to seriously consider,” Harris said.

“Right now, we see too much pandering to the radical left, to the violent extremists that are really torturing and tormenting many of our major cities. I would expect that this ticket for the Democrats would take money away from the police and make us less safe.”

Paul Pogba's relationship with Manchester United 'has changed'

Paul Pogba’s relationship with Manchester United has reportedly changed, and there is a good chance the Frenchman will pen a new deal.

Pogba has entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, but United do have the option of extending this by another season.

Up until now it was assumed that Pogba would either be sold this summer or allow his contract to wind down at United.

The World Cup winner has been in and out of favour at Old Trafford re-since signing for the club in a then world record £89million transfer back in 2016.

But things have changed in recent months, with the Frenchman now a key part of United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Paul Pogba’s relationship with Manchester United has reportedly changed

According to Fabrizio Romano, talking on the Stretford Paddock Tier 1 Podcast, Pogba may even look to sign a new deal to stay at United.

Pogba spent much of last season out injured as United looked a long way short of qualifying for the Champions League.

But the signing of Bruno Fernandes rejuvenated the Frenchman, and the Red Devils finished as high as third in the Premier League.

Pogba has been in great form for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Man United

Manchester United’s season isn’t over yet though as they are still in with a chance of winning the Europa League in Germany.

Solskjaer’s Red Devils take on Sevilla on Sunday, with victory setting up a final clash against either Inter Milan or Shakhtar Donetsk.
