THE View’s Meghan McCain leveled harsh criticism at Kamala Harris, adding to the explosion of outrage over the Vice President’s comments about the border.
“I thought she sounded like a moron when she was talking to Lester Holt,” McCain said on Friday, referring to a viral interview in which Harris said she had not visited the border.

McCain later took to Twitter to criticize Harris[/caption]
“Her nervous laugh is making me nervous that she doesn’t know what she’s doing.”
McCain brought up the topic for discussion on a panel of The View that included Senator Joni Ernst and comedian Michelle Buteau.
“Even some fellow democrats think she is handling the crisis wrong,” McCain said of Harris as she introduced the topic.
In the now-infamous interview with NBC’s Lester Holt earlier this week, Harris was asked if she will visit the southern border.
“So this whole – this whole – this whole thing about the border. We’ve been to the border. We’ve been to the border,” the flustered Vice President replied.

When Holt reminded her that she had not in fact traveled to the border, she laughed and said, “I haven’t been to Europe.”
“And I mean, I don’t – I don’t understand the point that you’re making. I’m not discounting the importance of the border.”
During a diplomatic visit to Guatemala on Monday, Harris told migrants not to come in another comment that drew ire from the internet.
“I want to be clear to folks in this region who are thinking about making that dangerous trek to the United States-Mexico border: Do not come. Do not come.”

Criticism of Harris came from both sides of the political spectrum[/caption]
Following her trips to both Guatemala and Mexico, Harris was asked yet again when she would go to the border in an interview with Colombian reporter Ilia Calderon.
“I’ve said I’m going to the border,” the Vice President answered.
When Calderon began to interrupt, the vice president snapped: “I’m not finished…” as she wagged her finger.
She added: “I’ve said I’m going to the border. And also, if we are going to deal with the problems at the border, we have to deal with the problems that cause people to go to the border – to flee the border.”
When pushed on the question again, she replied, “I will keep you posted.”
The President of Guatemala later called the US immigration stance ‘lukewarm’[/caption]
Press secretary Jen Psaki later said she ‘expects’ Harris will visit the border[/caption]
The backlash came as Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei criticized US immigration policy after his meeting with Harris.
In an interview with Fox News, he said, “What they said [in the US] is that they will promote family unification – so the coyotes took the children and teenagers to the US, and the order was full, not only with people from Guatemala.
“[That] is why our proposal is that messages should be clear. But if you have a lukewarm message, it only creates the opportunity to misinterpret.”
Harris’ comments come as data shows border crossings have skyrocketed up 674 percent and the White House has pledged $4billion to address “root causes of migration” in countries like Guatemala.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said she “expects” Harris will visit the border in the future.
“What her focus has been, what the assignment is specifically, is to work with leaders in the Northern Triangle,” Psaki said.
“Her focus of this trip is on meeting with leaders, having a discussion about how to address corruption, how to address root causes, how to work together to address humanitarian challenges in these countries.”
