The Wire’s Michael K Williams looked happy & healthy in final photo at Respect film premiere just weeks before death

THE Wire’s Michael K. Williams looked quite happy and healthy in a final photo at the Aretha Franklin biopic premiere taken just weeks before his shocking death.

The actor was found dead in his Brooklyn, New York apartment on Monday, law enforcement sources told The Sun.

The actor made an appearance at the Aretha Franklin biopic premiere in early August[/caption]

In the snap, which was taken on August 8, the 54-year-old posed and smiled for the cameras while wearing a bright green button down and pants covered with a peacock-styled design.

The snap was taken at Regency Village Theatre in Los Angeles, as Michael was in attendance for the premiere of the film Respect.

However, fans are now stunned after learning that Michael has passed away.

NYPD officials revealed to The Sun: “Michael was found dead by a relative around 2pm today at his Kent Avenue apartment in Brooklyn.

“He was alone when he was discovered. Illegal paraphernalia was found in the apartment.

“The medical examiner is currently investigating his cause of death.”

Michael’s rep also confirmed the death and said in a statement: “It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams.

“They ask for your privacy while grieving this unsurmountable loss.”

Plenty of fans, including fellow famous faces expressed their disbelief.

Da 5 Bloods and Grey’s Anatomy actor Isiah Whitlock Jr. tweeted: “Shocked and saddened by the death of Michael K Williams.

“One of the nicest brothers on the planet with the biggest heart. An amazing actor and soul.”

Country musician Jason Isbell said: “I crossed paths with Michael K. Williams once in New York.

“And I was too nervous to say hello, so I walked around the block trying to work up the nerve and still couldn’t do it. Just loved his work so much. This news is so sad.”


The TV star was best known for his role as Omar Little in the iconic HBO drama series The Wire.

The New York native also played Chalky White in the hit show Boardwalk Empire.

He also reeled in five Emmy nominations during his incredible career.
