Toure says he's discovered how attackers can "get something" from Van Dijk

Kolo Toure says more players should look to get into one v ones with Virgil van Dijk, as that could expose the Liverpool defender’s “weakness” a bit more often.

Van Dijk has just completed his second successive ever-present Premier League season with the Reds, and more importantly was a key member of the team which won the club’s first top-flight league title in 30 years.

The Dutchman is widely regarded as perhaps the best centre-back in the game today, but Leicester coach Toure, who is one of Van Dijk’s predecessors at Anfield having played for Liverpool between 2013 and 2016, thinks more players should test themselves against him.

“He’s an unbelievable player,” Toure told Stats Perform News.

“He’s a top player. He’s got speed, height, he can jump. He’s got technique. He can switch the game with his long passes. He has got everything.

“I haven’t seen many players challenge him one on one. In my opinion, that’s his weakness! He’s really tall and if you really attack him with the ball, he can struggle, but he’s so clever.

“He’s so clever because he drops well, but if you are really aggressive in attack in a one-on-one, I think you can get something from him.

“He’s a really clever player. He’s got Joe Gomez on his side, good players on his side to help him as well. There are good players around him and I think that makes his game easy, but I think he’s got so many qualities.”

Toure will doubtless by telling Leicester forward and Premier League Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy to put his advice into action next season, although it remains to be seen if he’ll be successful.
