While Hirst always knew Lagertha’s time on the series was running out, he has admitted the shield-maiden was one of his favourite characters to write for.
This made it doubly hard for the showrunner to write the long-running Viking warrior out of the historical series.
He added: “I have to say it was very, very difficult to write that stuff and to know I was writing her death.”
Bjorn may conclude the series by ascending to Valhalla, so some fans are speculating there may be a chance he reunites with his parents Lagertha and Ragnar in the season finale.
Vikings Season Six Part Two will be released in 2020 on the History Channel and Amazon Prime Video.
